Our road trip began in Cortland, New York — a quiet town that would soon give way to the wide-open roads of upstate New York. The destination: Niagara Falls. My base: Wyndham Garden at Niagara Falls.

🚗 The Drive: Cortland to Niagara Falls

  • The drive from Cortland to Niagara Falls clocks in at about 195 miles (around 313 km) via the faster highway route. Expect roughly 3 hours and 10–15 minutes of driving if non-stop.
  • The drive takes you across central New York, through or near cities like Syracuse and Rochester, before reaching the Buffalo/Niagara region. It’s a smooth drive on interstate/highway roads — a good balance of convenience and scenery.
  • I left Cortland in the morning, with packed snacks and a final check on the GPS, ready for the drive. On my mind: the roar of waterfalls, the sharp contrast from town roads to open highways.

🛏️ Staying at Wyndham Garden at Niagara Falls

I checked in at Wyndham Garden at Niagara Falls — a well-situated, comfortable hotel that made my stay easy and relaxing. Some highlights:

  • The hotel address is 443 Main Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14301.
  • From the hotel, the falls and many of the main tourist sites are within easy reach. The hotel is described as “the closest hotel to the majestic Niagara Falls and the Rainbow Bridge,” making it ideal if you want convenience and walkability.
  • Amenities are solid: heated indoor pool, fitness center, 24-hour market/snack bar, free WiFi, and cozy rooms with mini-fridge, coffee/tea maker, cable TV — perfect after a long day exploring.

Staying at a place so central meant that I could easily walk (or drive a few minutes) to the major attractions without wasting time commuting.

🌊 Exploring the Falls & Surroundings

On my first full day, I headed straight to the waterfalls — after all, that’s what I came for. With the hotel’s handy location:

  • I visited the main falls area, soaking in incredible views and feeling the mist in the air. The closeness of the falls to my hotel meant minimal commuting — more time to enjoy.
  • I wandered around the nearby attractions: scenic overlooks, walkways, and if weather permits — classic sight-seeing boat tours or walking paths in the gorge.
  • Evening was magical — with the falls illuminated against the night sky, a scene that made the stay feel truly special.

Staying at Wyndham Garden meant I could easily go to the falls multiple times in a day — morning for a walk, late afternoon for golden-hour photos, and evening for the illuminated falls.

🛍️ Side-Trip: Shopping at Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls

4.4•Shopping mall•Closed

On a lighter note, I carved out a half-day for shopping at the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls — a perfect complement to waterfall sightseeing.

  • The mall is located about 4.5 miles (~7.2 km) from the hotel.
  • It’s an easy drive (or quick ride) from the hotel — just enough to feel like a change of scene while still staying close.
  • Inside the outlets: over 200 stores offering a variety of brands and deals. Whether you’re into fashion, sportswear, or just browsing, there’s something for everyone.

It was great to mix nature’s grandeur with a bit of retail therapy — especially after a morning at the falls, a lazy lunch, and then heading to the mall for some window-shopping (and maybe some real shopping 😉).

✨ Reflections from the Road

This road trip felt like the perfect blend of ease and adventure. Starting from Cortland (a quiet, calm town) and ending up in the dramatic landscapes near Niagara Falls gave me a refreshing contrast. Staying at Wyndham Garden at Niagara Falls offered comfort and convenience, letting me fully enjoy the natural wonders without worrying about long commutes. And the shopping detour to Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls added a fun, relaxed dimension to the trip.

If you ever plan a similar drive — whether solo, with friends, or with a loved one — I’d say: go for it. Take your time, soak in the drive, enjoy the Falls, and maybe treat yourself to something nice at the outlets afterward.
